How much does a Shopify store cost in Portugal in 2026?

Monthly plan, fees per sale, apps and development: what a Shopify store really costs in Portugal in 2026, using Shopify's official euro prices.

How much does a Shopify store cost in Portugal in 2026?

A Shopify store in Portugal starts at €24 a month on the Basic plan billed yearly (€27 billed monthly), plus a fee on every card payment, from 1.8% + €0.30. On top of that come the apps you choose and, unless you build it yourself, the cost of building the store: with me, an essential store starts at €1,800 + VAT.

Plan prices and fees below are taken from Shopify's Portugal pricing page, checked on 22 October 2026. Prices for other countries can differ. I go through each cost with worked examples, so you know what you'll pay before you start.

How much is the Shopify plan per month?

Shopify has four plans. The price depends on whether you pay monthly or yearly:

  • Basic: €27/month, or €24/month billed yearly.
  • Grow: €74/month, or €66/month billed yearly.
  • Advanced: €384/month, or €345/month billed yearly.
  • Plus: from €2,100/month.

All of them include hosting, an SSL certificate and unlimited products. To get started, there's a 3-day free trial, then €1/month for 3 months.

Which plan should you choose?

In first meetings, almost every small and mid-sized store I talk to fits the Basic plan. Grow pays off when you need more staff accounts, or when you sell enough for the lower card rate to cover the difference.

The maths is simple. Grow's card rate is 0.2 points lower (1.6% instead of 1.8%). Billed monthly, Grow costs €47 more per month. It only pays for itself on fees from roughly €23,500 a month in card sales. Billed yearly, the gap is €42 and the break-even point drops to about €21,000.

Advanced and Plus are for large operations with several stores, big teams or a custom checkout. If you're planning your first store, you don't need them.

Does Shopify take a cut of every sale?

It charges a processing fee when the customer pays, like any online payment method. With Shopify Payments on the Basic plan:

  • European cards: 1.8% + €0.30 per sale.
  • MB WAY (Portugal's popular mobile payment app): 1.3% + €0.30 per sale.
  • International cards and American Express: 3% + €0.30.

On a €50 sale, that's €1.20 if the customer pays by card and €0.95 with MB WAY.

Watch out for other payment providers

If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. This comes on top of whatever the other provider charges. On the same €50 sale on Basic, that's another €1.

So my default advice is to use Shopify Payments, and only add another provider when your customers ask for a payment method that Shopify Payments doesn't offer.

Theme, apps and invoicing: the costs nobody mentions

Theme

Shopify offers free themes that are well built and fast. Paid themes have a one-off cost. For most stores I build, a free theme adapted to the brand is enough, and you avoid paying for features you won't use.

Apps

Each app has its own plan, usually monthly. This is where costs creep up without anyone noticing. In the audits I do, I often find stores paying for apps they installed to try out and never used again, or two apps doing the same job.

Invoicing

In Portugal, stores must issue invoices through certified invoicing software. The most common options connect directly to Shopify, such as Moloni or InvoiceXpress, and have their own plans. Budget for this from day one.

Domain

Shopify gives you a free address like yourstore.myshopify.com, but to sell properly you need your own domain, which is paid yearly.

How much does it cost to build the store?

You can build the store yourself with a free theme, in which case the cost is your time. If you'd rather have someone build it, these are my prices:

  • Essential store, from €1,800 + VAT: theme adapted to your brand, up to 50 products, payments and shipping, Portuguese invoicing (Moloni or InvoiceXpress) and training. You send the copy, photos and products in a sheet I give you; I build everything.
  • Complete store or redesign, from €4,500 + VAT: custom design, integrations, content migration, SEO basics, training and 2 months of support. Typical timeline: 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Migration to Shopify, from €3,000 + VAT: from WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Magento, with products, orders, customers and 301 redirects.
  • Monthly maintenance, from €400/month + VAT, with up to 6 hours a month and no lock-in, for ongoing care of the store.

The price is fixed in writing before we start with staged payments. See the details in services.

Example: what the first year costs

Take a small store that starts with an Essential store, pays for Basic yearly and sells €2,000 a month, in 40 orders of €50 paid by card:

  1. Building the store: €1,800 + VAT (one-off).
  2. Basic plan, yearly: €24 × 12 = €288.
  3. Card fees: 40 × €1.20 = €48 a month, or €576 for the year.
  4. Apps, invoicing and domain: on top, depending on your choices.

First-year total, before apps, invoicing, domain and VAT: €2,664. From the second year, without the build, you're left with the plan, the fees and your subscriptions.

Not every business needs to start here. If you mostly sell through messages with a small range of products, read the TatiJú case study first: sometimes a simpler setup solves the problem.

How to pay less for your Shopify store

  1. Pay yearly. On Basic you go from €27 to €24 a month, saving €36 a year.
  2. Use Shopify Payments. You avoid the extra 2% fee on every sale on Basic.
  3. Start on Basic. Upgrade when your sales justify it, not before.
  4. Review your apps every six months. Remove what you don't use and merge overlapping features.
  5. Choose your theme carefully. A well-adapted free theme is usually enough.
